Undergraduate Student Assistant

Remote, Part-time Position

PACE provides hardware, software, and user support for campus-wide HPC (high-performance computing) clusters used by hundreds of Georgia Tech researchers. Our cluster provide massively-parallel hardware, including multi-core and GPU. Researchers run novel simulation, data analytics, and AI/ML workflows.

Job Description

In this position, you will contribute to user-facing web portals for our campus-wide HPC (high-performance computing) clusters. These web portals are used by researchers to develop and run high-performance simulations, data analytics, and AI/ML workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop additional capabilities of PACE’s Open OnDemand (https://openondemand.org/) instances
• Use bash, Python, and JavaScript to expand capabilities of existing OnDemand applications (such as our Jupyter and RStudio services)
• Use bash, Python, and JavaScript to introduce new OnDemand applications (such as TensorBoard and ParaView)
• Use JavaScript, HTML and CSS to improve the UI/UX of the OnDemand portal

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Registered undergraduate student

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Linux command line and bash scripting
  • Familiarity with Python
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn JavaScript
  • Ability to learn new technologies based on developer documentation

Interview requirements: If you are offered an interview, you will be required to do the following:

  • Prior to interview, complete a take-home coding challenge in bash and Python
  • During the interview, demonstrate your ability to use the Linux command line in response to the interviewers’ questions

Research Computing Facilitation Student Intern

The Partnership for an Advanced Computing Environment (PACE) provides faculty participants a sustainable leading-edge high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure with technical support services.

Job Description

As a student team member, you will contribute to essential documentation for researchers at Georgia Tech and elsewhere who use high-performance computing. This way, you can gain valuable knowledge and experience with this rare and highly sought-after skill set. Your work will enable the research community on all PACE systems, including the Phoenix cluster, ranked on the Top 500 list for the world’s most powerful supercomputers.

Responsibilities

As a student member of the RCF team, you will participate in improving our documentation (https://docs.pace.gatech.edu) by creating new pages, updating existing ones with new information, and migrating content to our new documentation home in ServiceNow (http://services.gatech.edu). Another project is the restructuring our main website (https://pace.gatech.edu), to optimize the presentation of the general information about our high-performance computing resources to the research community of Georgia Tech and other universities. Along the way, you will develop expertise in research computing while working on a supercomputer in collaboration with PACE’s research scientists.

Qualifications

  • Basic familiarity with the Linux operating system
  • Basic familiarity with at least one programming language
